Charles Wyke-Smith - author of Styin' with CSS

In Stylin' with CSS, Charles Wyke-Smith takes you rapidly from CSS basics to advanced page styling. Whether you are taking your first steps into the world of standards-based Web site design, or are a seasoned pro, Stylin' provides you with essential CSS information, examples and techniques.

Stylin' with CSS shows you how to:

  • Create fixed-width and liquid page layouts.
  • Create your own drop-down menus, or use the multi-level version in the Stylib library.
  • Write for today's browsers while working around the quirks of IE6.
  • Accelerate site development with the Stylib library of page templates interface and components.
  • Use CSS like a pro by understanding key concepts and techniques such as document flow, absolute and relative positioning, and floating and clearing.

Note on Registration and Downloads

February 26, 2008 Ooops! I can't believe no one reported this before, but it seems that in the previous download zip, the Stylib library was not in the folder of the chapter files, as it needs to be. The simple fix is to move the Stylib library into the same folder as the chapter files' folder. The current .zip file is organized correctly, so if you downloaded the files before today, I suggest you log in and download the .zip file again, then the page template examples will then be linked correctly to their stylesheets (which are in the Stylib files) when you first open them, without you having to change the CSS style sheet paths in the XHTML.

February 20, 2008 I've received a few emails from people who have experienced problems with the sign-up/confirm email process. I think this is because the confirmation email's URL was getting garbled in certain email clients - although I believe that I now have this issue resolved. If you have problems logging in after you sign up, don't get frustrated; just email me and I'll confirm your registration so you can log in.
